About the Project

Thirteen weekly walks continue to take place across Cardiff, with another two in the pipeline for Llanishen and Butetown. Some are more popular than others and the poor weather this summer has not helped to boost the numbers. We are hoping that new publicity will help to promote the "quieter" walks.

There have been two "Joint Walks" this year in Cardiff, where all walkers are invited.

Our spring walk had a tremendous turnout of 78 people on an unseasonably foggy Friday morning in May. The large group took a lovely walk through the bluebell woods on the Wenallt in north Cardiff. Although the walk started in fog, the weather picked up and by the end of the walk the sun had broken through. Having enjoyed the morning walk, the majority then went on to enjoy lunch in the Travellers Rest.

In August, 108 walkers strolled across the new footbridge at Cardiff Bay on to the latest stretch of the Wales Coast Path along the Cardiff Barrage. The walkers finished with refreshments at the Environment Building afterwards.

An Autumn Walk is being planned for October somewhere in Cardiff - more news later!

During 2008, 36 walk leaders have been trained for Cardiff and 11 for other organisations outside Cardiff by the Project Co-ordinator at 4 sessions in the city. A further session is planned for the end of September 2008.

The Cardiff scheme is continuing to grow and is developing successful partnerships with other local organisations.
