About the Project [Dec 2009]
There are currently fourteen weekly walks taking place in various communities in Cardiff. The most recent walks include a second walk in the Cardiff Bay/Grangetown area and one in Cathays Cemetery.
There have been four "Joint Walks" this year in Cardiff, to which all the walking groups are invited.
Our Winter Walk last March around Forest Farm was quite a feat of endurance due to the heavy rain. However we still managed to attract 48 walkers and they certainly appreciated the cup of tea and homemade cakes at BTCV afterwards.
In May our spring walk consisted of a walk from St Fagans along the Ely Trail for a couple of miles and then back to the Plymouth Arms for lunch. There were over 50 people on that occasion.
For our Summer Walk we ventured into the Vale of Glamorgan for a pleasant walk around Cosmeston Lakes.
For our Autumn Walk we travelled up the Taff Trail form Taffs Well to Nantgarw and back beside the river Taff. Unfortunately, during the last third of the walk it rained very heavily and this rather put a dampener on the end of the trip! (no photos that day!)
Our next walk will be in February possibly oin the Cardiff section of the Taff trail.
57 walk leaders have been trained by Jane Williams for Cardiff and surrounding areas at 6 different training sessions during 2009.
The Cardiff scheme is continuing to grow and is developing successful partnerships with other local organisations.
