Gwynedd Council Takes a Positive Step
Building on the success of the Nordic Walking Gwynedd scheme during 2007-08, Gwynedd Council, with the financial support of the Sports Council For Wales, have appointed two part time walk facilitators. Caroline Moncrieff and Catrin Roberts have boosted the Council’s role in the Let’s Walk Cymru initiative by working with exisiting health walk groups and developing two new walking groups at Tywyn and Bethesda.
The new walking groups will be supported during the year, with the aim of promoting awareness of the benefits of a variety of walking activities that will encourage inactive people into activity, whether it be Nordic walking, using existing footpaths and routes, progression walks or improving navigation skills.
Caroline and Catrin are qualified Walk Leaders and walk tutors and also Nordic Walking Instructors. So both are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide all walking groups with a wealth of information.
A further aim for Gwynedd Council this year is to provide ongoing support and advice to the Volunteer Walk Leaders in the form of a leader support pack. Training for new Volunteer Walk Leaders will be provided at two different locations in Gwynedd.
